Research

Research and development at Lafarge focuses on satisfying customer needs and the development of products that are increasingly environmentally-friendly.

Ambitions

Lafarge's approach to research is driven by customers' needs. Our research and marketing teams build close relationships with the construction industry to design products and solutions that everyone can benefit from.

One example: Artevia®, a range of decorative outdoor concretes, is among more than 500 different formulations of concrete Lafarge has developed in response to customers' expectations for robustness, resistance, durability, aesthetics, and control of setting and hardening.

Working Toward Sustainable Construction

The Lafarge Group's R&D department develops products that are ever more environmentally friendly. It aims to:

  • decrease CO2 emissions in the production process,
  • conserve natural resources, for example, by increasing the proportion of recycled raw materials in the production process,
  • create value-added products for sustainable construction, for example by improving the thermal inertia of buildings,
  • improve health and safety conditions for employees and subcontractors,
  • optimize the performance and use of products. For example: the dust-free technology of Rapid Coat ® Low Dust joint compound helps improve working conditions for craftsmen in the building trades. Agilia® self-placing concrete does not require vibration, reducing physical effort and noise on building sites.
